OKO tyre sealant lasts for the working life of the tyre: it stays liquid inside and keeps sealing punctures until the tyre is worn out. One dose, added when the tyre is new or fresh, is normally all it needs. The one stated exception is long-haul trucking, where OKO Original Truck & Bus stays active for about 100,000 to 140,000 km (60,000 to 90,000 miles) and can then be topped up if the tread is still legal.
Why OKO does not dry out
Once the valve core is back in, the inside of a tyre is a mostly sealed space. OKO also seals the tread itself, cutting the slow air loss through porous rubber. With little air moving in or out, the sealant stays liquid rather than drying out or separating. The formulas are stable and non-separating, so no shaking is needed before use.
Each puncture uses only a small amount of sealant. The rest stays in a layer around the tread, ready for the next one.
How long each formula lasts
| Formula | Stays active for | Tyre-life extension |
|---|---|---|
| OKO Original Off-Road | The full life of the tyre | Up to 20% |
| OKO Original 4x4 & Van | The full life of the tyre (tubeless tyres only) | Up to 20% |
| OKO Original On-Road Motorcycle | The legal life of the tyre | Up to 20% |
| OKO Original Truck & Bus | The legal tyre life; about 100,000 to 140,000 km in long-haul use | Up to 20% |
| OKO Original Mining | The legal life of the tyre | Up to 20% |
| OKO Premium Tyre Care Lifelong (conditioner) | The full life of the tyre or tube | Up to 30% |
It makes the tyre last longer, too
"The life of the tyre" is a moving target, because OKO extends it. By sealing the tread and holding the right pressure, it keeps the tyre cooler and more flexible. That reduces the heat build-up and wear that come with running on slow leaks. The result is up to 20% more tyre life on road and off-road vehicles, even if the tyre never picks up a puncture.
For slow-moving, high-load machines, OKO Premium Tyre Care Lifelong goes further. It is a conditioner, not a sealant: it stabilises air pressure, cuts internal heat and protects against rim corrosion, extending tyre life by up to 30%.
Long-haul trucks: when to top up
High-mileage trucks are the one case where the tyre can outlive the sealant. In typical long-haul use, OKO Original Truck & Bus stays active for about 100,000 to 140,000 km (60,000 to 90,000 miles), depending on climate and conditions. If the tyre still has legal tread by then, top it up to keep an active liquid layer inside the casing. The Metallic Application Pump for 25L Drums does this through the valve, against up to 60 psi. Our guide to truck and bus fleets covers fleet roll-out.
Getting the most life from one dose
- Apply early. Put OKO into new or fresh tyres for the longest protection.
- Use the right dose. Get the figure for your size from the OKO dosage calculator.
- Keep pressures right. Inflate to the recommended pressure after filling.
- Stay within the formula's limits. Speed, tyre type and puncture size all matter. See preventive sealant vs puncture repair for what sealant can and cannot do.
Storing unopened sealant
Store containers in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, and keep the closures on when not in use. Store Lifelong indoors. If the product will be kept somewhere cold, check our guide on whether tyre sealant freezes, as freezing points differ by formula. Quick answers
Does tyre sealant dry out inside the tyre?
OKO does not. The tyre is a mostly sealed environment, and the sealant stays liquid for the tyre's whole working life.
How many miles does sealant last in a truck tyre?
In typical long-haul use, OKO Original Truck & Bus stays active for about 100,000 to 140,000 km (60,000 to 90,000 miles), depending on climate and operating conditions.
Do I need to top up tyre sealant?
Usually not. The exception is long-haul truck tyres: if a tyre still has legal tread after about 100,000 to 140,000 km, OKO Truck & Bus can be topped up.
Does sealing a puncture use up the sealant?
Only a little. Each puncture takes a small amount, leaving plenty in the tyre to seal the next one.
